Ngee Ann Polytechnic one of the most established polytechnics in Singapore, was founded in 1963 as Ngee Ann College with 116 students. It was subsequently renamed Ngee Ann Technical College in 1968, before adopting its current name in 1982. From its humble beginnings, the Polytechnic has grown from strength to strength to become one of the premier institutions of higher learning in Singapore.
Today, Ngee Ann Polytechnic has eight academic schools offering a total of 42 full-time diploma courses. We also offer a range of part-time diploma courses. The Polytechnic currently has an enrolment of about 15,000 full-time students, 1,300 part-time students and a vibrant alumni community of about 99,000. The Ngee Ann Polytechnic campus is spread over 35.4 hectares and is situated in the upmarker Bukit Timah residential district.
The Polytechnic offers students a holistic learning experience which emphasizes balanced and broad-based education. To ensure that its courses and students are in tune with current market developments, the Polytechnic maintains close industry links and devotes expertise and resources to assist the development of local enterprises.
In recognition of its dedication to world-class education, the Polytechnic has garnered numerous awards, including the Public Service Award for Organisational Excellence (2001 & 2004), People Developer Award (since 2000), Singapore Quality Class (since 1999), and the ISO 9001:2000 certification (since 2001).
In 2000, Ngee Ann Polytechnic received the certification for the People Developer Award. This award provides Ngee Ann Polytechnic with national recognition as a dynamic, forward-looking and modern organisation, with caring and nurturing staff. Ngee Ann was recertified for the People Developer Award in June 2006.
To help Ngee Ann graduates further their studies, the Polytechnic actively cultivates global alliances and agreements on course accreditations. Ngee Ann graduates enjoy advanced standings with many foreign universities, allowing them to go straight to the second, third or fourth year of the course.
Ngee Ann Polytechnic is the first polytechnic to offer degree courses. Currently Ngee Ann Polytechnic offer degrees in Early Childhood Education and Naval Architecture. In the pipeline are degrees in Advertising & Marketing Communications, as well as Film.
