The BME Centre has recently secured a two-year research grant for the design and development of a specialized rehabilitation system for stroke victims. The R&D project has three-phases:

1. Development of a patient-sensing treadmill that adapts to the gait of a stroke patient.
2. Conducting clinical tests jointly with clinicians to determine the efficacy of treadmill therapy on standard and adaptive treadmills.
3. Adding enhancements to the system to increase efficacy of therapy, and verifying the improvements through a clinical test.

The Smart Home Research Center at University of Sherbrooke devotes itself to develop an ubiquitous domiciliary infrastructure based on activity recognition using sensor information.

Themes: smart home, ubiquitous computing, cognitive assistance, control systems, tangible interfaces, distributed IA, automatic synthesis of systems.

The Center is looking for a post-doc fellow who demonstrates good knowledge of one or more of the mentioned themes, with excellent applied research qualities in the field of smart homes. He/She is expected to to participate in research deployment within a building regrouping 10 smart homes for adults with cognitive deficiencies. This is a one-year appointment and may start as early as 1st June 2007.
